Often in newborn portrait sessions that involve an older sibling we try to get one or two beautiful sibling portraits. When little Tate came in for his newborn session with his doting big brother Christopher, we got many! Christopher clearly adored his little brother and he did not want to stop cuddling him. What a special bond these two already have.
Of course, we also managed a few family portraits and a few of little Tate on his own, but big brother Christopher was never far away.
When I have a newborn session with an older sibling, I always try for some sibling portraits first. This is especially true if the older sibling is still quite young, usually 2 or 3 years old. then we move on to family portraits, and then the older sibling can be excused. Some families may take the older sibling off to preschool or school, or some have Grandma or Grandpa pick them up. A newborn session lasts 2-3 hours which is a long time for a toddler or young child to sit in my studio if they are not involved in portraits.
In this session, Christopher, being a little older and already school age, he stayed for the whole session. Because of this we managed to include him in a few more portraits as the session continued. He was watching over little Tate the whole time. A doting big brother for sure!
