Is it time for your family portraits? Are you struggling to decide what outfits to put your family in for these special photos? Below I talk abut all the details to keep in mind when shopping for your little girls outfits.
It is no surprise that questions about what to wear are always one of the biggest queries I get from my clients. Clothes are important in a photo session, and can impact the feeling and even the overall sense of quality of your final pieces of art hanging in your home. In truth, this is one of my favourite aspects of photographing my daughter – choosing her outfits and letting her little personality shine through.
Family portraits are an investment, both in time and money and so it is also important to spend time thinking through your clothing choices to ensure you love the way you look in your beautiful photos for years to come. You want your outfit choices to both reflect your families style, be timeless, and be something you love looking back on 5, 10 or even 20 years time.
In this post I’m focusing on little girls – what fun! There is certainly no shortage of inspiration out there for adorable, timeless, beautiful outfits for little girls when deciding on family portraits. The difficulty with little girls can be in narrowing down your choices, and not going overboard. Clothes are important in a photo shoot, but you don’t want the clothes to overwhelm your children, and distract from the connection and emotion we are focusing on for your family.
I am a lover of classics, lace, pastels, soft flower prints. I don’t mind a little colour, but subtle splashes and soft hues are my favourite. Having a photo shoot is an excuse to dress it up a little and picking outfits similar to what you might wear for a formal party such as a christening or wedding are beautiful. Little dresses with mary-jane shoes, a small bow or flower in the hair and a touch of lace are all my ideal when it comes to dressing little girls. A ruffle, a twirly skirt and a little whimsy. Classics never go out of style.
Accessories – these are available in abundance for little girls – bows and ribbons, flowers and wings, sparkley caplets and umbrellas. What fun there is to be had in a little girls wardrobe!
The winter months are not without their fun either – tights and jackets, long socks and little boots, hats and scarves can all work to complete an already adorable outfit, as well as making sure your little girl is warm and comfortable.
So go and get creative, hit your favourite boutiques or better yet shop at a department store to find all your favourite brandish one place. Choose your little girls outfit/s and have fun. Think about what colours and tones suit your daughter’s colouring, what does she love to wear and feel special in?
