Pregnancy is an amazing and beautiful time and I believe there is no better way to celebrate it than with maternity portraits. We can create beautiful intimate and classic portraits in the privacy of the studio, or some stunning portraits out at one of the beautiful locations around the Northern Beaches.
To get the most out of your maternity photos however, there are a few things you should know.
When is the best time to book in for a maternity session?
I recommend my clients book in between 30 weeks to 34 weeks for their maternity portraits. Waiting too much longer after this and you may start to feel too tired and exhausted, or you risk going into labor early and missing your shoot altogether. I have had one client deliver the day after her session, but so far we have managed to avoid any sessions cancelled by an early delivery.
Try to avoid wearing anything that will leave a mark
During pregnancy, our bodies retain a lot of extra fluid which means things like elastic waistbands, socks and elastic hair bands worn around your wrist will leave a mark on your skin. We want you skin to look as smooth as possible, so avoid anything elastic before the session.
Form hugging clothing is flattering
Loose maternity clothing is super comfortable, but doesn’t always look great in photos. When it come to your maternity portraits, remember, the tighter the clothes, the better! We want to show off that belly and your beautiful pregnancy curves! We don’t want to hide them under layers of fabric. I have some beautiful lace gowns and robes that beautifully flatter the pregnant curves of your body. It is my job to pose you and photograph you in the most flattering way, and I love showing your beautiful body at this special time.
Showing skin is beautiful
Nude and semi nude maternity photos are beautiful and these are often my favourites! I have some beautiful robes for draping around your body and belly and will always photograph you in a tasteful and beautiful way!
Husbands, partners, kids are all welcome
I’m often ask if other family members can be in some of the maternity portraits and the answer is YES! These are your portraits and your moment to celebrate this amazing time in your life. So bring your loved ones with you to share in this amazing time in your life!
