Photography has been a passion of mine, and a hobby, since high school. As a child I loved flipping through our family albums. As an adolescent I loved being able to express myself through what I created with my camera. As a young adult I made lots of photo books and framed “artistic” photos. As a mother, my passion for documenting all the tiny details and nuances of my babies, my growing children, led to this passion exploding. But why did I become a Professional Portrait Photographer? As a professional photographer I have fallen in love with what this medium can capture and express for your family. I love it for my family and I want that for you as well.
This is a digital age. An age in which we have access to hundreds, thousands of images of our families. We have an ability to capture almost every moment, every milestone of our children, our family, our lives. Yet it is also an age where we are printing fewer and fewer of these family portraits to display in our homes.
Psychologists have long known that displaying family portraits in our homes helps to raise the self esteem of children. Being able to view a family portrait on a daily basis boosts self confidence, a sense of belonging and self worth.
In fact, there is a powerful connection in the brain when you are able to touch a physical print. Photos tell us that the people in them are important, that we honour their memories.
When my late Grandmother was very ill at the end of her life, at the foot of her bed was a framed portrait of her late, beloved husband of 60 years. When she woke up and when she went to sleep, he was the first thing and the last thing my Grandma saw. On her living room wall were portraits of all of her family – 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 12 grandchildren. Her family. A sequence of digital images on a phone or a computer wouldn’t quite have the same impact.
Let me create for your family these pieces of art. Art that will be cherished for years to come. That will evoke memories, nostalgia and love. That will bring a smile to your face as you remember when your growing children were so small. That will comfort and inspire.
Fingers and toes, eyelashes and milk pimples. There are the fleeting tiny details of your precious newborn. Cheeky smiles, belly giggles, chubby thighs, soft baby ringlets, and those big baby eyes. The adorable age of your cuddle baby, on the cusp of crawling, ready to explore the world. Celebrating every milestone is so special and every age is beautiful to capture. From newborn, to a first birthday, to a rambunctious toddler, to those toothy grin of your little girl or a scraped knee of your adventurous boy.
These are the details I want to create your beautiful heirloom photos with. The deep connection and bond. The overwhelming joy you feel. I want you to relive these emotions when you look back at these memories.
I believe photography is an art and your precious newborn, your beautiful baby, your adorable toddler, your shy child, these are my most precious subjects.
“That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet.”
